Craven A 1930s

The advert is advertising cigarettes. It's claiming that it's good for you "For your throats sake smoke Craven A" and it will make you good at sports. Companies wouldn't be able to do this today because what it's saying is wrong and it's illegal to advertise cigarettes.

Maltesers 1950s

The advert is claiming that it will help you loose weight "Choose the chocolates that can help you keep slim..." Companies wouldn't be able to do this today because what it's saying isn't true.

I think that the issues in adverts that get complained about the most are that adverts are misleading.

Paddy power advert

I think this advert got so many complaints because in the advert they kick a cat and it looks like they just brush it off like it's nothing. I also could of got some complaints for discrimination of blind people. The ad should've been band because a lot of people found it offensive.

Viral and guerrilla adverts

Viral - something that's been shared and viewed a lot.
An example of a viral advert is the cadbury's drumming gorilla advert.

Guerrilla advert - an advert that is happening to you live.
An example for a guerrilla advert is the coca-cola happiness vending machine advert.
Representation

Stereotypes
Media institutions use stereotypes because the audience will instantly understand them. think of stereotypes as a 'visual shortcut'. They're repeated so often that we assume they are normal or 'true', however they are often negative.

Archetypes
An archetype is the ultimate stereotype. A very typical representation of a person, a place or an idea. A perfect vision. The archetypal farther - stern, powerful and controlling.

Counter type
A representation that challenges tradition stereotypical associations of groups, people or places. Think of it as a positive stereotype. Black americans in the past have been subject to negative stereotyping (criminals). However Will Smith provides a provides a counter type as he is a positive role model.
